How would you describe The Perfect Man?
Is he tall and muscular? Does he have dark hair with bright, dreamy eyes? Perhaps, he’s the quiet, sensitive type or the bold, comedic type? Maybe, you’d describe The Perfect Man as romantic, thoughtful, and spontaneous?
When I was growing up, I believed that The Perfect Man had gorgeous blue eyes, a passion for sports, and a smile that would light up any room. He had the power to make your heart skip a beat. In fact, my vision of The Perfect Man was my elementary school crush - and he was The Perfect Man for me for 6 years! This boy had me head-over-heels for him. Was he perfect, though? It took me a long time to realize it… but, no. He was far from it.
I think, for us females at least, it’s extremely difficult to let go of the idea that we need something on this earth to satisfy us; whether it’s receiving attention, our physical beauty, or fitting in. However, it seems that a woman’s satisfaction most often comes from men (in the sense of finding true love). This trend is evidently seen in the movies we watch, the music we listen to, and the advertisements we come across. You may be far from wanting to find love, but I think in some way, shape, or form, the media have influenced the way we view love, dating, and relationships. I know that I have been affected, and I could tell you some of the ways that popular culture and the media have impacted my own relationship. For this reason, I want to bring you back to the essential truth.
Now, destroy every idea you have of The Perfect Man because there is only one, and his name is Jesus Christ. It’s crucial to know that Jesus isn’t just The Perfect Man, but also The Perfect Person, as well as a perfect and Holy God. When sin entered the world, humans were completely separated from the Lord and had no way of entering into the kingdom of Heaven. God, being the loving and merciful Father we know today, was aware of this issue. For this reason, he sent himself down to earth as Jesus Christ to pay the (once and for all) price for our sins: eternal death (Romans 6:23; Isaiah 53:4-6). His perfection is the essential reason we are now able to enter the kingdom of Heaven. It is the reason we are able to develop a relationship that is based on pure love and a relationship that will never fail us… a relationship with The One True God: The Perfect Man.
If you haven’t experienced this kind of love that Christ offers to us so freely (even when we don’t deserve it), I urge you to ask questions and to be persistent in the pursuit of truth. I promise you that this relationship doesn’t even compare to the relationships and romance you see on screens. It doesn’t even come close to the romantic relationships we personally experience in this world. Once you acknowledge Jesus Christ as The Perfect Man, not only will you resist the influence of today’s culture and the media, but your heart will be forever satisfied.
